Easter Storytime & Workshops Thursday 17th & 24th April 2025

Maylord Orchards Hereford

Hello Book Lovers

School Easter Holidays are just around the corner, do you have activities planned with the kids? We are offering FREE storytime sessions and creative workshops with some talented local authors.

Meet award winning Charlotte L. Taylor of Toadstool Tales. She will be joining us on Thursday 24th April for two sessions.

11am Charlotte will share her fun picture book 'Time for Bed Sleepyhead!'

Recommended for children 3 - 7 years

When it’s time for the sun to go to bed, he’s having too much fun. So, deciding to stay awake, he looks for others to play with. However, what he discovers instead makes him realise he might be better off going to sleep after all!

Perfect for little ones who refuse to settle down at night, this fun, rhyming story teaches children why it is important for them to get their sleep ... just the answer for exhausted grown-ups everywhere!

Running time: 30 - 40 minutes

All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

12 noon introducing 'Broken Twigs: Farewell to Faerie Forest'

Recommended for children 8 - 11 years

Farewell to Faerie Forest introduces a magical world where diligent fairies perform their duties so that the faerie realm has everything it needs each season. Queen Iris rules with kind benevolence over the hard-working fairies, with all doing their fair share of work ‒ all, that is, except Twigs. Stubborn and temperamental, Twigs hates working. As soon as the fairies begin their daily chores, Twigs disappears and spends her days getting into mischief. It’s clear why she has no friends, nor does she want any.

Into this world on a summer’s day comes chaos and a disturbing malevolence. Twigs makes a terrible misjudgement and endangers the other fairies and their home. Everything she takes for granted is stripped from her, and she finds herself far from Faerie Forest, alone, and in danger. All she wants is to return home, but evil, a dark secret from her past, and her own mistakes stand in her way.

Running time: Approx.45 minutes

All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

Rose English & Miss Ruby Heart

Gillari Books was set up by Indie Author Rose English and her little mascot Miss Ruby Heart.

Living on 'England's Green & Pleasant Land', among the gentle rolling hills of the Herefordshire Countryside, Rose's house is wall to wall books. She's a Read-a-holic, whose hobby is to write stories for the young and young at heart.

Working as a school librarian, and sharing her love of books with children, was the best job she ever had. However, life moves on and another chapter was only a page turn away. Working in a very different library now, she is a key worker for the NHS helping to run the Medical Equipment Library in Wye Valley NHS Trust.

After winning FIRST PRIZE in a short story competition with 'The Magic of Grandfather Christmas' she is inspired to transform the tale into a collection of stories for all ages. ‘Young Ebenezer' is inspired by the Dickens classic 'A Christmas Carol' and brought into modern times with a strong theme of sharing and caring.

Rose has a little sidekick called Miss Ruby Heart, a ruby King Charles spaniel from the Grandfather Time Series. The puppy is the Ghost of Christmas Past and features on the 'Young Ebenezer’ covers. She also has her own social media pages check out www.instagram.com/missrubyheart1

** 2023 the royalties from our new picture book 'A Christmas Carol with Grandfather Time' went towards printing copies of the book that were then gifted to children at Hereford County Hospital Wye Valley NHS Trust West Midlands UK.

A big THANK YOU to those of you who donated copies. **
